Why did you select your major(s) and minor(s)? Were there any events or people that convinced you to declare?
I initially started as a Music Education major but switched after taking a few Gender Studies classes that piqued my interest. I have always had a
passion for engaging with social issues; being able to take an interdisciplinary look at these issues has been incredibly eye-opening and beneficial to my understanding of various movements and acts of resistance.
What is your favorite course you have taken from your program(s) and why?
My favorite course has been WMNS402, Sexuality in 19th & 20th Century America with Dr. Rose Holz. This course expanded my understanding of where the United States has been regarding sexuality in the law and how it affects where we are today (and where we'll go)! Knowing the history of resistance is incredibly important
Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
One of my strongest mentors has been Dr. Rose Holz. Through every class I've taken with Dr. Holz, I have felt supported in my education and free to learn in both individual and group settings. I have always felt like my insight matters and that my contributions are valuable. The classes I've taken with
Dr. Holz have been challenging but I never felt like they were impossible; I've grown a lot from pushing myself in her classes.
What are you involved in on campus or in the community?
I have been the music director of Take Note A Cappella (@unltakenote) for the past two years. I also do community theatre when I have time!
What are your plans after graduation?
I am seeking employment in a Diversity/Equity/Inclusion or Human Resources-related field post-graduation and am looking at the possibility of further education after taking a break from school.
