Each spring, we celebrate another year of success and service with our Spring Celebration, which brings nationally recognized speakers to campus for lectures and receptions with students, staff, faculty, and the public.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019 we welcome Dr. Holly McGee, assistant professor of history at the University of Cincinnati, who will deliver our annual Spring Celebration lecture at 4:30 PM at the Sheldon Museum of Art, to be followed by a reception at 6:00 PM.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. McGee specializes in U.S. History and African American History, with an emphasis on black women’s activist and intellectual history, comparative political activism in the United States and South Africa, and popular culture in the twentieth century. She will discuss Elizabeth Mafeking, a recognized South African women’s leader and trade union president identified by white civic and political leaders in 1959 as the head of the “most militant trade union in the country.”

Additional events for the 2019 Spring Celebration included two free film screenings, both recent South African films. “The Wound” and “Five Fingers for Marsellies” were shown Monday April 8, 2019 at the Sheldon.
